2. Business overview (Shiroyama Farm)
Our farm is located approximately in the middle of the so-called Gyeongwon Line, which runs from Gyeongseong to Wonsan, and is located in a collective area of about 2,000 hectares, spanning Ennan-ri and Jinnan-ri in Gobu-myeon, Pyeonggang-gun. The land is located along the railway line between Kenfusunami Station and Araiura Station on the Gyeonggen Line, and the new Shiroyama Station in the middle is close to our farm office, approximately 160 km from Gyeongseong and 100 km from Wonsan, 364 m to 606 m above sea level. It is a plateau area that stretches north and south as a series of steep peaks, and is slightly open in the west, but the east is in contact with the cliffs of Chugerei, making it a highland area that is unsuitable for rice paddies and is mainly used for upland farming and livestock farming, with windbreak forests. For this purpose, we are planning to plant deciduous pine trees. Agriculture in this region is still in a primitive and extensive state, and in order to develop it, we first began intensive cultivation of adapted crops and special crops required by national policy using the sharecropping management method, with the main crop being oats. , corn, potatoes, cannabis, etc. This region is particularly well-known as a suitable area for growing hemp, flax, hops, and radish, and this farm is also currently trial producing these crops.
In addition, in the area of livestock farming, we planned to develop livestock farming, and in accordance with national policy, we first raised about 100 Corriedale sheep, then gradually moved on to raising horses, cows, pigs, rabbits, etc., and each of them is making steady progress and production is gradually increasing. The plan is to entrust the offspring to farmers. Furthermore, in the area of forestry, there is currently a mountain forest covering approximately 250 hectares, and the forest is mainly deciduous pine, but in addition to annual cutting, plans are being made to increase the number of trees, and in 1942, 100,000 deciduous pine trees were planted. Based on the above-mentioned policy, it is difficult to discuss the results immediately, but the area is located along the railway lines leading to Gyeongseong and the major cities of North Korea, and has an advantage in terms of transportation, and cultivates special crops and produces agricultural products and livestock products. It is seen as promising for manufacturing processed products. This is why this farm has great potential. There are nine employees, including Mr. Shinshiro Horie, the current farm manager.
