1.Tozan Noji Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan)

History and overview

Our company is managed by Baron Hisaya Iwasaki, and the name Tozan comes from the formal name (gamei) of the previous head of the ” Iwasaki family “, Mr. Yataro Iwasaki. Tozan Noji Co., Ltd. was established with a capital of 5 million yen, inheriting the operations of the old Tozan Farm in Korea, Takuhoku Farm in Hokkaido, Honjyo, and the Mitsubishi Joint Stock Company Niigata Office. It began operations on November 1, 1919. Since then, the company has been headquartered in Marunouchi, Tokyo, with the main purpose of farming, forestry, and livestock farming, and has established branch offices in Korea and Niigata, renaming Takuhoku Farm to Asayano Branch, and also handling contract management of Koiwai Farm and Suehiro Farm, both owned by the ” Iwasaki family “. Later, as the business developed, the capital was increased to 10 million yen in 1920, but due to circumstances, the land in Hokkaido was sold in 1926, the Asayano branch office was closed, and the paddy fields in Niigata were also released to tenant farmers year after year. In 1935, the Niigata branch was also closed.

However, in November 1936, our company acquired Taiwan’s Tonan Sangyo, which had been run by Mitsubishi Paper Mills Co., Ltd., and began operating it under our control. Thereafter, the aforementioned Koiwai Farm was reorganized into a stock company on April 1, 1938, and Koiwai Agriculture and livestock farming Co., Ltd. was established, but the management of the company is still handled by our company. Next, in 1940, we acquired land in Gangwon Province, Korea, established Shiroyama Agricultural Co., Ltd., and brought it under our company’s umbrella.

In addition, the ” Iwasaki Family Office ” began to expand overseas in 1927, and began managing Casa Tozan Limitada, a commercial and industrial company in Brazil, South America, and Fazenda, Monte d’Este, and Limitada, which were involved in agriculture and livestock farming. Tozan Cultivation Co., Ltd. was established in Dutch Territory Sumatra and began developing Ajamu Plantations in 1929, and furthermore, from December 1, 1940, the management of Consolidated Sango Co., Ltd., a rubber cultivation company in the Malay Peninsula managed by Naoya Aikusawa, was transferred to our company. These overseas businesses related to our company’s management have developed over the years, and their foundations have also become stronger, and there are certain things that will contribute to the development of our overseas businesses.

Thus, from the time of our company’s founding until 1929, Mr. Shoichi Kirishima served as our Managing Director, after which Mr. Masaharu Sakamoto took over and continues to serve as Chairman of the Board to this day. Over this period, as times have changed and various businesses have progressed, the company’s organizational structure and company regulations have been revised several times. Currently, the head office is divided into a general affairs department, a technology department, and an accounting department, each of which has separate duties. The total number of officers and employees is Approximately 60 people.
